Abstract

This study was performed to determine the contact sensitization producing activity of sodium hyaluronate with guinea pig maximization test. During the induction stage, we injected intradermally each two sites with 0.1§¢(1§·/animal) test agent, 0.1§¢ complete Freund¢¥s adjuvant and 0.1§¢ the test agent emulsified in the adjuvant. Une week later, we induced weak sensitization with 10% sodium lauryl sulfate(petrolatum) and applied 1 §¢(10§·/animal) test agent topically on the same site and made a tight occlusion. Two weeks later, we challenged with 1§¢(10§·/animal) of test agent on the flank and observed at 24 hours and 48 hours later. The results were as followed. The sensitization scores were zero in all guinea pigs and the sensitization rates were also observed 0% at 24 hours after challenge. The results observed 48 hours after challenge were the same.
Therefore, we concluded that sodium hyaluronate had no contact allergic sensitization in guinea pig maximization test.
